Family-Friendly Mountain Biking Adventure at Waitekohekohe Reserve

The Katikati Bike Series is back for 2026, and we’re kicking things off with a fun, inclusive, and adventure-filled day of guided mountain biking at Waitekohekohe Reserve. Whether you’re new to riding, bringing the kids along, or an experienced rider keen for a technical challenge, this event is designed to bring the community together and showcase one of Katikati’s favourite outdoor spaces.

Date: Saturday, 28 February 2026

Location: MTB Carpark, Waitekohekohe Reserve (Thompsons Track, Katikati)

Registration: 10:00am on the day

Cost: Gold coin donation

This is a relaxed, family-friendly event with guided rides, shared experiences, and time to connect with fellow riders and trail supporters.


🚴‍♂️ What’s Happening on the Day?

👧 Kids Loop – 10:15am Set-off

The day begins with a kids-friendly loop, perfect for younger riders and families. Everyone is welcome to ride together, making it a great warm-up and introduction to the reserve’s trails before splitting into groups.


⛰️ Experienced Riders Track – 10:40am Set-off

For confident and experienced riders, a technical guided track to the summit will follow. This ride offers more challenging terrain and rewarding views, highlighting the variety Waitekohekohe Reserve has to offer.


🔥 BBQ & Trail Talk

After the rides, stick around for a BBQ and informal korero about Waitekohekohe Reserve and the Trails Group. It’s a chance to relax, refuel, and learn more about the ongoing work that keeps these trails accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
